The Chevy C-10

Chevrolet, more widely known as Chevy, is a brand manufactured by the well-known General Motors Company.  This American brand, founded in 1911, has become a historical figure in the development and production of American-made cars and trucks.  While Chevy has released numerous models during their long reign of the last 100 years or so, the Chevy C-10 holds a special place in the heart of auto enthusiasts.

Chevy have produced a range of pickup trucks since the early 30’s, with the C-10 – appearing in 1960 and enjoying 40 long years of service.  The C in the Chevy C-10 indicates the two-wheel drive version of this iconic pickup; while the K Series boasts a four-wheel drive train.  While these series were replaced by the well known Silverado and Sierra in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the C Series gained a loyal fan following during its long life.

This classic Chevy C-10 is well loved and still going strong!

In the early 60s, GM introduced a newer body style for the C-10 with improved frame and independent front suspension.  Coil spring front suspension was then introduced in 1963 along with a new 140 hp engine.  Although these mechanical improvements continued, Chevy didn’t see a need to do significant cosmetic upgrades until 1967, when increasing competition from Ford as well as more interest from consumers in the purchase of trucks for non commercial use, saw a major body redesign that emphasized streamlined body lines, and moved the truck bed lower to improve handling as well as supporting the new styling.

By the 70s these improvements had won over many Americans with over 80,000 of the 1970 Chevy C-10 being produced. The 1970s also saw the introduction of an entirely renovated C-10 with a variety of comfort features including better padding and insulation, chrome trim, and AM/FM factory installed radios.  The Highlander package was released in 1972 and was the top of the line in both the C and K Series models.

The Chevy C-10 will always have immense historical value and popular appeal throughout the United States and even abroad.  While the style and design originated in the US, Brazilian versions later hit the market because of the widespread popularity and versatility of this unique pickup.  Classic C-10s can be purchased through various private sellers in restored condition to this day, and restoring old well-loved and worn bodies is a favorite task for custom auto mechanics and auto enthusiasts alike.
